Kaiser Chiefs @ The Arena
The Kaiser Chiefs played The Arena, Fortitude Valley Brisbane on Thursday August 2nd with support from Operator Please and Wolf & Cub.
I did not have a media pass for Operator Please or Wolf & Cub so my night started at 9:00pm when Rachel and I arrived for a 9:30pm start!
The Arena was not sold out although there did not seem to be much room left to stand or move about and any more people would have made it a fire hazard!
I had a bit of lens trouble before I went in to shoot as the lighting didn’t seem to be playing fair as they were testing it all, so I was stuck between the 24-70mm [2.8] and the 50mm prime [1.8]. I ummed and ahhed for a good 5 to ten minutes before deciding to go with the 50mm even though it would restrict me a lot it would let enough light in when the lights got low.

Sure enough when they came out the lights went bonkers, bright, dark, red, yellow, blue, white, blind! I really needed sun glasses half the time for the first song I couldn’t see shit! So I shot on 1/60th at 800 ISO until I realised how much the lead singer ran about the stage parading himself about so I had to up everything! Not the lights had a pattern as Rachel told me but it was proving difficult to sync the lights with the band and with my settings so all that flew out the window and I just shot everything dark, light, dead or alive!
As much as I could have moved about more and tried to stand still a bit longer I think these photos came out quite nice with a bit of charm to them.
I’ll be keeping an eye out on Rave to see if these make it onto the Website or into the Paper, as Splendor in the Grass was last weekend I’m assuming it gets special privies over everything else! But I don’t mind I’m loving it and shooting heaps more than I would for Fasterlouder I think they have forgotten me!
Next Time: The Mint Chicks [NZ]
